Jakarta weather is classified as hot and muggy, with tropical wet and dry patterns dominating conditions. Located in the western region of Indonesia and due to its approximation to the equator the city has individual wet and dry seasons. Jakarta weather is such that it is actually considered to be one of the hottest and sultriest capitals in the world.

The tropical wet season begins in November and runs right through to June. Precipitation during this part of the year comes in the form of short, heavy bursts, the remainder of the four months outlining the dry season. January is the month with the majority of precipitation; average monthly rainfall is 385mm. The least rainfall occurs during July averaging 31mm in the month.

Jakarta weather is hot and humid all year round and temperatures rarely fluctuate from month to month. Average daily high temperatures are between 28C and 35C, daily lows are 24C, humidity levels are 70% in the afternoons.

Weather conditions in Jakarta are marred by heavy rainfalls during the monsoon season thus causing flooding to the city. The city of Jakarta is located below sea level and its canal systems are not well designed and cannot handle the overwhelming rains, leaving parts of the city under water for several days at a time. Foreigners not accustomed to the peculiarities of Jakarta weather are advised to refrain from visiting Indonesia's capital during the monsoon months.
